Where?

Le Marche is in the middle of Italy, north-east of Rome, on the Adriatic coast. Le Marche is easily accessible by car, train and air. You can drive to Le Marche from the England within 2 days; most people decide to stop overnight half-way. There are also car-sleeper trains in the summer from Den Bosch and Düsseldorf to Bologna and Verona. Another very good and inexpensive option is air travel, combined with a rented car on arrival. There are excellent air connections to Ancona, Pescara and Rome. You will be in Sopra e Sotto from the England within a few hours!

Car

There are various routes by car from England via Germany, France, through Switzerland or Austria. The distances don’t differ much, so there are alternatives in busy periods. The quickest route is usually via Switzerland. Have a look at our route description to Sopra e Sotto. Remember that there are motorway tolls in both France and Italy and a sticker is needed in Switzerland and Austria. It is advisable to buy this sticker beforehand in order to avoid waiting at the border.

Car-sleeper trains

The car-sleeper train is a good alternative for a long car journey. You arrive rested at your destination and still have your own car. Ideal for families with young children and a lot of baggage. The car-sleeper train is very popular, so book early. There is a car-sleeper train every Friday, from the middle of June to the beginning of September, from Den Bosch to Bologna, which is 300 kilometres north of Sopra e Sotto. Air

There are three airports in the area if you wish to come by air: Ancona, Pescara and Rome. Budget airlines have services several time a week to Ancona and Pescara. The ticket prices are very low, especially when booked early. Ryan Air offers good and inexpensive flights (www.ryanair.uk). Rome can be reached from more than 100 airports around the world, mainly by scheduled flights.

The airport Ancona Falconara is the one most used for Le Marche. It’s 10 kilometres north of the city. Sopra e Sotto is 100 kilometres from the airport. You can fly to Ancona from for example Brussels Charleroi (CRL), Weeze-Düsseldorf (NRN), London-Stansted (STN). Arrival and departure times for Ancona can be found here (www.ancona-airport.com).

Pescara is the capital of the Abruzzen, the province south of Le Marche. The airport is 4 kilometres south of the city. Pescara is 136 kilometres from Sopra e Sotto and is a good alternative for Ancona. You can fly to Pescara from for example Berlin (SXF), Eindhoven (EIN), Frankfurt (HHN), London Stansted (STN) and Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG). Rome Fiumicino – officially Leonardo da Vinci Airport - is Rome’s biggest airport. The airport is 16 kilometres south-west of the capital, about 270 kilometres from Sopra e Sotto. The large airline companies fly directly to the airports of almost all the large European cities, such as Amsterdam Schiphol (AMS), Berlin Tegel (TXL), Brussels Zaventem (BRU), Düsseldorf (DUS), Frankfurt (FRA), Copenhagen (CPH), London Heathrow (LHR), London Gatwick (LGW), London City (LCY), London Luton (LRT), and Luxemburg (LUX). Rented car

A rented car is an easy way of touring Le Marche and to reach Sopra e Sotto from the airport. The counters of rental companies such as Avis (www.avis.uk), Autoeurope (autoeurope.uk), Budget (www.budget.uk), Europcar (www.europca.uk), Hertz (www.hertz uk) and Sixt (www.sixt.uk) can be found in the arrival halls of the airports Ancona Falconara, Pescara Abruzzo International and Rome Fiumicino The handiest and least expensive way is to book your rented car at the same time as your air ticket.
